Get
Get significa "ricevere", "ottenere".
Questo è il suo significato principale, ma può essere usato anche con altri significati, ad esempio nelle seguenti espressioni:
- get divorced (divorziare)
- get married (sposarsi)
- get dressed (vestirsi)
- get changed (cambiarsi d'abito)
- get up (alzarsi)
Si usa anche alla forma passiva:
- There was an accident but nobody got hurt. (c'è stato un incidente, ma nessuno si è fatto male)
- She doesn't get invited to parties. (lei non è invitata alle feste)
Nell'inglese parlato si usa spesso la forma "get something done" invece di "have something done":
- She is having her hair cut.
- She is getting her hair cut. (si taglierà i capelli)
- We are having/getting the roof repaired. (Faremo riparare il tetto)
Get significa anche persuadere, chidere a qualcuno di fare qualcosa per noi.
- I couldn't move the heavy table. I got somebody to help me. (Non riuscivo a spostare il tavolo pesante. Mi sono fatto aiutare).
Inoltre vuol dire "abituarsi": get used + verbo in -ing
- I got used to living in a much smaller house. (Mi sono abituata a vivere in una casa molto più piccola).
Get come "raggiungere" un certo posto:
- What time do you get to work? (A che ora arrivi alla stazione?)
- How do I get to the station? (Come faccio a raggiungere la stazione?)
Get into: entrare in una stanza, un edificio e in una macchina)
- Lucy got into the car and drove away. (entrò in macchina e se ne andò)
Got out: uscire
- She got out of the car and went into the post office. (uscì dalla macchina ed entrò nell'ufficio postale)
Get on/off un autobus, un treno, un aereo.
- She got on the bus and went away. (salì sull'autobus e se ne andò)
- He got off the train and walked to the city centre. (scese dal treno e camminò fino al centro della città)
